The Estimation of Silica in Tissues

چکیده
The estimation of silica in animal organs by the gravimetric method is attended with considerable difficulty. Large amounts of tissue are necessary, and ashing by the method of Stolte (I), or even with the aid of an electric muffle furnace is a tedious process requiring several hours for completion. Analysis of the ash for silica in the conventional way also takes considerable time, so that an estimation is a fairly lengthy process. Isaacs (2) seemed to have supplied the need for a rapid and easily manipulated procedure in his calorimetric method for the estimation of silica in tissue. Discordant and inaccurate results, however, attended the use of Isaacs’ method in this laboratory. The colors produced in both standard and test solutions were not proportional to the concentrations, and in many cases, even with the utmost care, duplicate estimations did not check. In the case of tissues high in calcium, there was invariably formed, when the test solutions were heated in the water bath, a heavy precipitate of calcium molybdate. This precipitate was a source of constant trouble, as the test solutions had to be filtered before they could be read, and in several instances it was thought that some of the blue color was being carried down by the calcium molybdate. At any rate the results obtained by this method did not agree with gravimetric analyses done as a check on the same tissues, and the discrepancy was largest where the precipitate in the solution had been heavy. In the present paper a micro method is proposed which makes use of the intense yellow color formed when a silicate solution is treated with ammonium molybdate and sulfuric acid. The method is quick, and easily applied, and the proportionality of

Estimation of the risk for the second cancers induction in healthy tissues during the radiation therapy of liver’s tumor
The aim of this study was to estimate the delivered doses to tissues and organs around the liver tumor during radiotherapy and to determine organs with a high probability of secondary induction cancers. This study was carried out using Monte Carlo method. The used Phantom, the ORNL phantom is for an adult female. The volume of the tumor is as much as 30% of the liver tissue. In the initial step...
متن کاملInvestigation of acoustic properties of silica coated gold nanoparticle as contrast agent for Ultrasonography
Interoduction: Ultrasound images have often low contrast due to small differences in acoustic impedance between different tissues. Air or gas microbubbles that surrounded by membrane are most of the contrast agents in ultrasound imaging. Problems such as instability in sound pressure and inability in penetrating from the blood vessel into body tissues limited the use of microbubbles into the in...
متن کاملApplication of mesoporous silica nanoparticles for drug delivery to cancer cells
Cancer is one of the main causes of death worldwide. Chemotherapy is the most common method for cancer therapy which represent non-specific side effects on normal cells and tissues and drug resistance in cancer cells. There are two main mechanisms for Multi Drug Resistance (MDR) in cancer cells including: drug efflux pump and activation of anti-apoptotic pathways. Cancer chemotherapy disadvanta...
متن کاملExtraction sorbent with octadecane-functionalized nano graphene for the preconcentration of Cu(II) in water and tissues from liver loggerhead turtles specimens
A simple, highly sensitive, accurate and selective method for determination of trace amounts of Cu2+ in water samples was reported. In this paper, Isopropyl 2-[(isopropoxy carbothioyl)disulfanyl]ethanethioate (IIDE) in order to prepare an effective sorbent for the preconcentration and determination of Cu. The sorption capacity of Isopropyl 2-[(isopropoxy carbothioyl)disulfanyl]ethanethioate (II...
متن کاملA method for microdetermination of major neutral lipids and an application of the procedure to tissue lipids.
Cholesterol, cholesteryl esters, triglycerides and fatty acids as major neutral lipids and phospholipids were examined in quantitative analysis. The method consisted of three steps: (1) separation of lipids by one-dimensional thin-layer chromatography on silica gel plates; (2) elution of neutral lipids from scraped silica gel with chloroform-methanol (4:1); and (3) colorimetric determination of...
